Maldivian Bodybuilding athlete, Shaheen Ibrahim Didi was given a hero’s welcome on his return with Gold from the Asian Bodybuilding & Physique Championships, 20-26 Aug 2017 in Seoul. This is a historic win for the Maldives.
Shaheen’s achievement is unprecedented because this is the first time a Maldivian athlete has achieved a Gold at the wider Asian continental level. The staff and management of the Male’ Fitness Club congratulate Shaheen for his unprecedented achievement.
Shaheen received a state welcome
With President of the Federation Mr. Hameed.
Shaheen has been a regular at the Male’ Fitness Club for the last 8 years. The first Gold at the South Asia level was won by Ali Abdulla (Body Allah) in 2000. His achievement inspired the sport at a time a regional Gold was thought to be beyond reach of Maldivian athletes.
Shaheen won a Bronze at the Asian Bodybuilding & Physique 160cm in 2014 and was placed second in the Mr. Maldives this year.
Gold Medal winner Shaheen was welcomed by the local bodybuilding community. The recently elected Bodybuilding Federation Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Hameed welcomed the achievement. More importantly, Shaheen’s win was a matter of immense pride for his home island community of 258 in Gaafu Alif Konday.
Four athletes participated in four separate events of this competition. Shaheen Ibrahim Didi & Ahmed Fazeel competed in the Men’s Bodybuilding 55kg Amateur Category. Mohamed Rasheed competed in the Men’s Bodybuilding 70kg and the Men’s Master Bodybuilding 40-50 years category and Mohamed Yameen competed in the Men’s Athletic Physique up to 175cm category.
The sport of Bodybuilding was promoted and developed through the Bodybuilding Federation of Maldives, founded in 1997. Muscle Load, a Male’ based fitness club initiated the sport of Bodybuilding around 1993. Muscle Load was managed by Mr. Mohamed Haleem who eventually went on to become the President of the Federation for many years. He is now an advisor to the Federation.
We wish Shaheen and aspiring Maldivian bodybuilders continued successes.
