Niluka Geethani Rajasekera is the first Sri Lankan woman to qualify on timing for the Olympics. At the Hong Kong marathon on 25 January 2015, she ran a time of 2 hours 40.07 minutes, setting a Sri Lankan record. Niluka is a Certified Personal Trainer and works in the Sri Lankan Army, which takes great pride in her achievements.

She participated in the 10km Open category of the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race 2016 and won 1st Place (Female) and 4th in the category overall, with a time of 00:39:01.
Dilrukshi Sandamali Rajasekara and Saduni Madurangani Rajasekara accompanied Niluka to the Maldives. Both sisters are also runners, and participated in the 5km Open event. Dilrukshi won 1st Place (Female) with a timing of 00:21:05, and Saduni won 3rd Place (Female) with a timing of 00:24:57.

Niluka’s husband, Janaka Samarasinghe, is a visiting lecturer at the Jayawardanapura University College, Lanka Institute of Fitness and Nutrition, and Sri Lanka’s National Institute of Sports Science, where he teaches Certificate IV Sports Science. Janaka also teaches in the Maldives as a lecturer for the National Certificate III Fitness Instructor courses run by the Male’ Fitness Club Academy.
